Youth at heart of royals’ Diamond Jubilee tours

Princess Anne is the latest member of the royal family to visit a Commonwealth Youth Programme regional centre. The Princess Royal visited the CYP Centre in Zambia on 27 September 2012 while on a four-day official visit to the country. Earlier this month, Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, visited the CYP Centre in the Solomon Islands as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour of South-east Asia and the Pacific.

Anne, the Princess Royal, was welcomed to the youth centre in the capital Lusaka by the Nomakanjani cultural dance troupe. Here, she talked to a group of Scouts who presented her with a poem in honour of her visit.

The visiting royal also interacted with young people from Kalingalinga Youth Resource Centre, a centre benefiting from Commonwealth Youth Programme Africa Technology Empowerment Centre, and presented certificates to winners of Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

During the royal couple’s Diamond Jubilee tour, Prince William addressed young people from 12 Pacific countries at the start of the Commonwealth Pacific Youth Leadership and Integrity Conference in Honiara on 17 September. Read full news story.
