Celebrity-Backed Global Health Fund Finds Evidence of (Massive) Corruption

The Associated Press reports today that the Global Health Fund, a $22 billion development fund to fight AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, backed by celebrities and hailed as an alternative to the bureaucracy of the United Nations, sees as much as one-third to two-thirds of some grants eaten up by corruption.

The AP reports that at minimum, tens of millions of dollars were pilfered from Zambia to Mauritiana to Mali to Djibouti and describes the levels of corruption in the grants they have audited so far are astonishing. The newly hired Inspector General is serious about uncovering all corruption but already Sweden has suspended its $85 million annual donation until the fund is fixed.
