Appeal for volunteers for Commonwealth Youth Games

January 10th, 2011

WITH just months to go to the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man the 10 partner sponsors are urging residents to volunteer to help run the games.

The event, which takes place from September 7 to 13 2011, will be hosted at various sporting venues across the Island staging rugby 7s, boxing, athletics, cycling, gymnastics, swimming and badminton for more than 1,000 competitors from around the Commonwealth.

Managing director of Barclays Wealth in the Isle of Man Greg Ellison said: “As one of the 10 partner sponsors we are very excited about the games coming to the Isle of Man next year and are putting our weight behind the campaign to recruit the 1,500 volunteers needed to assist with the games in a variety of roles.

“As the largest private sector employer and a partner sponsor we have an important role to play in supporting the games.

“Many of our staff have agreed to take the time out of their busy working days to volunteer both in the run up to the event and to assist as officials during the event.

“The games will be a landmark event in the Island’s history and I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved.”

The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 8 at the newly refurbished Bowl.
